Dream Eaters
In the universe of Kingdom Hearts there exist the dream realm. This realm is completely cut off from the waking world save for few indirect ways to enter. Not even the heartless can enter the worlds of the dream plane. Instead the dream realm has it's own manner of darkness. They are called Dream Eaters and there are two kinds. The first are nightmares which devour happy dreams as a form of sustenance. Nightmares take on a darker appearance than their counterparts, mostly in tones of color or even in terms of having more jagged scales, sharper teeth, ect. They also tend to be more aggressive. The second are spirits which consume nightmares as a form of sustenance. They also make it a goal to protect happy dreams as well as wield minor supportive power for visitors of the dream realm. They also tend to be quite playful at times.

Heartless
The Heartless are the very prevalent in the Kingdom Hearts universe. The are the physical manifestation of darkness, often forming from the very darkness in the hearts of men. The heartless will rampage throughout the lands, seeking out people to consume their hearts. Should a person have their heart devoured by a heartless, that person will become a heartless themselves. Thus the cycle will continues. Heartless typically form in great numbers in places of darker nature. (Kingdoms with a corrupt ruler, abandoned prisons, ect) When a heartless forms from the darkness in man's hearts, the Heartless is stronger depending on the depth of said darkness. Heartless are however completely mindless. While the are rare exceptions to this, where exceptionally greater darkness forms a heartless that can think and plan, the rule is that heartless will act on pure instinct and impulse, as well as their desire to feed and consume hearts. Being mindless also makes the heartless more susceptible to control magic. People with strong will can command the heartless, even in masses if they power is great enough. Should 2 opposing forces attempt to control the heartless, they will typically follow the stronger master. However, the heartless may still attack their master if they show weakness, acting on instinct to feed.
Heartless Families
Heartless are much more varied then nobodies, unversed, and dream eaters. With such great numbers, it is not uncommon for one species of heartless to be another version of another. As such, they are easily classified into families based on defining features.

Nobodies
Nobodies are strong willed being who have lost their hearts. Their body however had managed to survive through sheer force of will, giving it life. The stronger ones will even retain their human form. Their behavior is however, typically defined by the heart that they have lost. However, Nobodies are typically incapable of emotions. However they retain their memories which allow them to correctly respond to situations they find themselves in, however any emotion they show is an act. Weather that act be to fool someone, or to try and require their ability to feel emotions on some level. Nobodies unlike heartless however, can still think, plan, and become organized. As a result, they tend to be more intelligent. This, combined with their lack of emotions can make them a very large threat, as they will be willing to perform more morally bankrupt tactics in battle.

Unversed
The Unversed were born after an infamous Keyblade wielder known as Master Xehanort split the heart of a young boy named Ventus in two, creating his dark half Vanitus. Negative emotions and other forms of Negative energy leaked off of Vanitus which he was able to command, absorb, and produce more of. Unversed are considered to be "The Opposite of human life, and grow stronger from negative emotions and energy.
