A machine pistol is a handgun capable of fully automatic fire or a smaller caliber, stockless submachine gun. Due to the inherent instability of a weapon with a high rate of fire, many machine pistols come equipped with a folding wire stock, attachable holster stock, or other stability devices that don't directly increase the weapon's bulk.
