Fire Staff (5e Equipment)
Staff, uncommon
A more powerful version of a fire rod, this staff features 7 red gemstones arranged in an intricate pattern. A spellcaster holding this staff can use it as a Spellcasting Focus. While holding this staff, you can use it to perform one of the following attacks:
- Melee Weapon Attack. You swing the staff, making an attack roll (using your Strength modifier ) against a creature within your reach. On a hit, the target takes 1d4 + your Strength modifier bludgeoning damage plus 1 fire damage. If you wield this staff in two hands, its bludgeoning damage die increases to 1d6.
- Ranged Spell Attack (costs 1 mp). You loosen from the staff a mote of flame and make an attack roll against a creature or object within 120 feet. On a hit, the target takes 3d8 fire damage. You can add your spellcasting ability modifier to the attack roll of this attack. If you do not have a spellcasting feature, you add your Intelligence modifier instead. A flammable object hit by this attack ignites if it isn't being worn or carried.
- Melee Spell Attack (costs 1 mp). With a burst of flame, a pyrokinetic axe head forms on either side of the staff. While the axe head persists, the staff now deals 1d6 fire and 1d6 slashing damage on a hit, and you can use your spellcasting ability instead of Strength for the attack and damage rolls of melee attacks using this weapon. If you do not have a spellcasting feature, you use your Intelligence instead. Flammable objects that are hit by the axe head ignite if they aren't being worn or carried. After 1 minute, the axe head disappears.
Blazing Aura. The staff casts bright light in a 45-foot radius and dim light for an additional 45 feet. Additionally, while you hold the staff, you don't need to make saving throws against extreme cold (see chapter 5 of the DMG).
