Promotional art for Mega Man X2 for the Super Nintendo Entertainment System.

Mega Man X2 is the second game in the Mega Man X series and the sequel to the original Mega Man X.

The game intro sets the game 6 months after the end of Mega Man X, with Mega Man X and others hunting down the remnants of Sigma's followers. After fighting through an old factory, three mysterious figures are revealed to be plotting against X.

It was first released around 1994 by Capcom for the Super Nintendo Entertainment System. It later received a release for the Virtual Console, and has a page on the Nintendo website here. It is also included in the Mega Man X Legacy Collection, which has a page on the Capcom website here.

Tropes used in Mega Man X2 include:
  • Arm Cannon: Mega Man X is equipped with one.
  • Cool Bike: The hoverbike Mega Man X rides in the into cutscene. It is also featured in the box art.
  • Cutscene: The game features an intro cutscene explaining the events since the previous game.
  • Down in the Dumps: The Robot Junkyard stage.
  • Humongous Mecha: A huge robot attacks the player during the factory mission.
  • Imperial Stormtrooper Marksmanship Academy: In the lead up to the intro stage a hail of shots hit a companion, but fail to stop Mega Man X.
  • Nightmarish Factory: The factory in the intro is clearly not a pleasant place, with the factory robots trying to kill Mega Man X as giant robot parts line the background.
  • The Omniscient Council of Vagueness: Three appear in a cutscene after beating the boss in the intro factory stage. Their names are revealed in conversation as Serges, Violen, and Agile, though only their silhouette are seen.
  • One-Scene Wonder: The Green Biker Dude in the intro.
  • Schematized Prop: A schematic of Mega Man X is shown in the intro cutscene, followed by a wireframe 3D model of his head.
  • Shifting Sand Land: The background prior to entering the factory in the intro stage briefly shows this. The desert base level features this more prominently, letting the player guide Mega Man X over the sands on a hoverbike.
  • Stealth-Based Mission: The Central Computer stage features spotlights looking for the player, resulting in additional hazards if caught.
  • Wall Jump: Mega Man X can perform this to climb vertical surfaces.
  • The Walls Are Closing In: Happens while Mega Man X is wall climbing during the intro stage.
