Amazon (company)
Amazon is a huge company based in Seattle. As a result of its services and acquisitions, it is quite influential in mass media, even if most people only associate it with the online market and the streaming services tied to its name.
Amazon has reach across much of the media landscape, either directly through services such as:
- The Amazon e-commerce website and marketplace, which sells a substantial amount of physical media and media consumption devices.
- The Fire OS environment, including:
- Fire TVs, Streaming Sticks, and Tablets.
- The Amazon Appstore which distributes apps and games to compatible devices.
- The Amazon Kindle ebook app and ebook readers.
- The Audible audiobook platform.
- The Amazon Prime Video streaming service.
- Amazon Music which streams music and podcasts.
- Amazon Prime Gaming including the Twitch live streaming service and the Luna game streaming service.
- Amazon Alexa voice assistants, and the skill additions and games that can be used with it.
Amazon also influences the media ecosystem in less obvious ways. On the internet a number websites and media services run on Amazon's cloud infrastructure structure behind the scenes via Amazon Web Services. Amazon MGM Studios is the film and television production and distribution arm of the company, and owns Metro Goldwyn Mayer. A number of websites and platforms such as IMDb, the Wondery podcast network, and Goodreads are also owned by Amazon.
Of course, not everything Amazon made or acquired has been a hit, and the company can be rather controversial in some circles. Still, its wide reaching influence is hard to ignore.
The main Amazon website can be found here.
- Bland-Name Product: A number of Anime will give their own spin on Amazon or its logo.
- Iconic Logo: The Amazon logo is a simple logotype with its name, underlined by an arched arrow from the a to the z. This both shows that they deal with everything from a to z, it also forms a smiling face.
- Mega Corp: An extremely large company with international reach and influence across many industries.
- The Unpronounceable: A number of third party brands that sell on the Amazon marketplace are named as seemingly random jumbles of letters, going beyond even a Word Puree Title.
- We Sell Everything: The e-commerce platform Amazon operates sells almost anything you could reasonably expect from an online retailer. Expanded across the company and you can throw in services like healthcare and plans to sell satellite internet.
