Verkhovazhsky District (Russian: Верхова́жский райо́н) is an administrative and municipal district (raion), one of the twenty-six in Vologda Oblast, Russia. It is located in the north of the oblast and borders with Velsky District of Arkhangelsk Oblast in the north, Ustyansky District of Arkhangelsk Oblast in the northeast, Tarnogsky Districts in the east, Totemsky District in the south, Syamzhensky District in the southwest, Vozhegodsky District in the west, and with Konoshsky District of Arkhangelsk Oblast in the northwest. The area of the district is 4,260 square kilometers (1,640 sq mi). Its administrative center is the rural locality (a selo) of Verkhovazhye. District's population: 13,898(2010 Census); 16,346 (2002 Census); 18,560(1989 Soviet census). The population of Verkhovazhye accounts for 36.2% of the district's total population.
