Patterson is a town in Putnam County, New York, United States. The town is in the northeastern part of the county and Interstate 84 passes through its southwestern section. The population was 11,541 at the 2020 census. The town is named after early farmer Matthew Paterson. It was spelled with two "t"s because of the looseness with which Paterson spelled his own last name.
