Naneh Khanum Ostad

Naneh Khanum Ostad, also known as Hajieh Ostad was one of the prominent and influential wives of Fath-Ali Shah Qajar. Not only did she hold a special place at the Qajar court as the wife of the Shah, but due to her administrative abilities and political intelligence, she became one of the most influential women in the power structure of the royal harem. Naneh Khanum's role at court went beyond that of a regular wife, as she held important duties and responsibilities that granted her a distinguished position. As a sign of his affection, the Shah sent Naneh Khanum on a pilgrimage to Mecca, which earned her the title of Hajieh.
