Microvirga ossetica is a Gram-negative bacterium from the genus of Microvirga that was first isolated from the root nodules of the plant Vicia alpestris, a species of legume, found in North Ossetia Russia. The species was formally described and named in 2016 by Safronova et al. The bacterium is of particular interest because it is a type of rhizobia, a group of nitrogen-fixing bacteria that form symbiotic relationships with legumes to help them fix atmospheric nitrogen.
