Robert James Nicholson (born February 4, 1938) is an American attorney, real estate developer, and politician who served as the fifth United States secretary of veterans affairs from 2005 to 2007 and as chair of the Republican National Committee from 1997 to 2001. Prior to this, Nicholson was U.S. Ambassador to the Holy See from 2001 to 2005.
