Immigration to South Korea
South Korea has low immigration due to restrictive immigration policies resulting from strong opposition to immigration from the general Korean public. However, in recent years with the loosening of the law, influx of immigrants into South Korea has been on the rise, with foreign residents accounting for 5.2% of the total population in 2024. Between 1990 and 2020, South Korea's migrant population has grown 3.9%, the second-highest level of growth in the world.
According to the United Nations, in 2019 foreign born residents represented 2.3% of the total population, which is below the world average of 3.5%.
