Colossal Biosciences Dire Wolf Project

The Colossal Biosciences Dire Wolf Project is a project by Colossal Biosciences Inc. with the goal of replicating the phenotype of the extinct dire wolf (Aenocyon dirus) by genetic engineering. As of 2025, they had produced three genetically modified gray wolves (Canis lupus) beyond infancy, named: Romulus, Remus, and Khaleesi.

The project has received major criticism for the use of the term "Dire Wolf" for the project, as the genetically modified grey wolves cannot be equated as dire wolves (see § Reception).
