Ken Rosewall defeated defending champion Arthur Ashe in the final, 6–1, 7–5, 6–3 to win the men's singles tennis title at the 1971 Australian Open. It was his third Australian Open singles title and seventh Grand Slam tournament singles title overall. Rosewall did not lose a set during the tournament, the first man to do so at a Grand Slam tournament in the Open Era.
