Mars is the third[1] planet from the Sun (as of 3012) in the Sol System.

History

Philip J. Fry, II was the first man on Mars (a feat which has never been equaled), and it was terraformed with traditional college foliage such as ivy, trees and hemp around the time of the founding of Mars University in 2636. Sir Reginald Wong bought Mars from the Native Martians (he traded them a diamond) sometime after that. The purchasing of Mars is celebrated every year as Mars Day. As of 3012, Mars is the third planet from the sun, after a massive solar flare ignited subsurface gas pockets that propelled the planet out of orbit (7ACV02).

Environment

Mars is frequently victimized by giant dust storms that occasionally take the shape of cyclones. It is unknown whether Native Martians are the sole cause of these storms, or if they occur naturally. Most of Mars appears to be a desert, although a large river and waterfall, as well as a lush jungle, are seen near the University, as depicted in "Mars University".

Jungles of Mars

Several jungle residents shortly after being paralyzed by Professor Farnsworth.

Description: A lush jungle adjacent to Mars University. The jungle is home to (at least) certain species of toucans, parrots, frogs, snakes, lizards, tigers, and elephants.

Martian Reservation

Description: Located in Keeler Crater, the underground reservation where the Native Martians were forced to live. When the native Martians left, this underground complex seems to have been commandeered for use by the Legion of Mad Fellows, and the Feministas.

Mars Vegas

Description: A main attraction consisting of roller coasters, casinos and places such as Vinutian, Excalibot, buffets, hotels, and more. Later blown up for the New Mars Vegas.

Olympus Mons

Description: The largest volcano in the Solar System

Wong Ranch

Description: A Ranch, owned by the Wong Family, that covers the entire western hemisphere of Mars

Trivia

Mars is mentioned in three titles ("Mars University", "Viva Mars Vegas" and "The Owner of Mars Attacks!").
The creators make a point that Olympus Mons, Phobos & Deimos (the latter 2 being Mars' moons) are depicted accurately.
Native Martians, Buggalo, and Martian Spiders are ostensibly the only remaining native species on Mars. The Professor mentions that the now extinct Desert Muck Leech lived in a puddle on Mars before being killed in 3009, through the efforts of Leo Wong and the Last Encyclopod (ItWGY).
