Cornwood was an alternate reality created by Bender's imagination combined with the effect of the combination of the dark matter crystals. It was a parallel universe before its destruction. Since Cornwood was destroyed by Momon when she reacquired the Die of Power, it is unlikely that it will be revisited later.

Cornwood is strongly based on Tolkien's Middle-Earth. Cornwood itself and its characters contain many allusions to it. Even the map of Cornwood is simply a map of Middle-earth flipped backwards (with Mordor in the west and Gondor in the east, when in Middle-earth this is the other way around).

Allusions

Since the people and places of Cornwood are not only based on Middle-Earth and Dungeons & Dragons, but also other myths and legends, it is much easier for this article to refer to each character, race/people or place for which there is a reference.

Characters

The main cast of Futurama all appear in the alternate reality, but as a different characters based loosely on Tolkein's characters, basic Dungeons & Dragons concepts, combinations thereof or something completely different entirely, such as other myths or legends.

Turanga Leela	Leegola	Legolas from Lord of the Rings by name and by choice of weapon, but other than that she does not seem to be largely based on any character.
Professor Farnsworth	The Great Wizard Greyfarn	Gandalf the Grey.
Hermes Conrad	Hermaphrodite	Hermaphroditus was the name of a child borne by the gods Hermes and Aphrodite, and is used to refer a human with a combination of both male and female genitalia.
Amy Wong	Gynecaladriel	Debatable, but seems by name to be based on Galadriel of the elves from The Lord of the Rings. However, there are also references to concept of nymphs, as she declares herself Queen of the Water Nymphos, and the watcher who guards the western gate of Moria. Gynecology is a medical practice dealing with the female reproductive system.
Dr. Zoidberg	Unnamed	Possibly the Cave Troll or the Watcher of the Water, but then became similar to Sam Gamgee, as he helped Frydo get to The Geysers of Gygax.
Mom	Momon	Sauron. As a dragon, possibly Smaug from The Hobbit. The name may be a combination of "Mom" amd "Sauron". It may also reference the Biblical 'Mammon', personification of wealth or greed, sometimes included as one of the seven princes of Hell.
Walt, Larry and Igner	Waltazar, Larius and Ignus	The Black Riders, or Nazgûl
Roberto	King of Wipe Castle	Denethor, the Steward of Gondor from The Lord of the Rings.
None	Tunnelling Horror	Possibly the Balrog.
Calculon	Unnamed	Just a regular knight.
Dwight Conrad, Cubert Farnsworth et al.	Dwarfs	Seen dancing at Titanius' castle. Might be a reference to the cheerful nature of the Shire from Lord of the Rings, which lived largely without the troubles of other lands.
Smitty and URL	The King's guards	The last remaining guards of Wipe Castle.
None	Magic Arachnid	Shelob.
None	Treedledum	Treebeard. Name is a parody of Tweedledum from Lewis Carroll's novel Through the Looking Glass and What Alice Found There.
None	Peaches	Unknown.
None	Swamp Hag	Unknown.
Scruffy	Unnamed	None. He seems to be the person who takes care of the centaurs.

The Geysers of Gygax	Mount Doom in Mordor. Also named for Gary Gygax, the creator of Dungeons & Dragons.
Cave of Hopelessness	Moria in the Misty Mountains.
Wipe Castle	Minas Tirith or the White City. Also the real life restaurant White Castle.

The map of Cornwood is a rough-drawn version of the "real" Lord of the Rings map of Middle-Earth, inverted horizontally (i.e. as if seen reflected in an ordinary mirror).

The Fellowship	The Fellowship of the Ring from The Lord of the Rings, who seeks out to the destroy the One Ring. Though in Cornwood, they seek to destroy the Die of Power.
Gnomes	Unknown.
Hobbits	The Hobbits in The Lord of the Rings, even though they are not shown. They seem to be a crossbreed of hobos and rabbits.
Centaurs	Seems to be a combination of the elves and the people of Rohan.
Wipe Castle's land	Gondor.
Momon's Army of Evil, and Navy of Moral-Dubiousness	The forces of Mordor.
Morcs	Orcs. Also a parody of the character of Mork from Mork & Mindy. (Morcs were also the name of the Moe orcs from The Simpsons Game.)
Giant Kangaroos	Oliphaunts.
