Significance of Hair

Braids are a normal sight in Uruzi. It is a common craft that children learn at a young age. There are various methods to do this, and it is considered artistic expression within the culture. Some tribes have telltale hairdos, and so do some castes of society. Certain styles are considered reserved for certain classes, while some are considered profane or taboo. This is due in part to a superstition surrounding the god Hek. Long hair has become a symbol of longevity and endurance in the face of change, thus defying the chaos that Hek loves. Long hair is supposedly a sort of charm, as a result, against the ill-omens of Hek. Both male and female all keep long hair and avoid cutting it. His followers love to scalp and cut the hair of their prisoners first, usually. Braids make it easier to possess and upkeep long hair in Uruzi, and outsiders who come with long hair are usually surprised at all this custom surrounding hair.
