Twisted Bident (5e Equipment)

Staff, legendary (requires attunement)

This is an item used by many demons, so many to the point its exact origin is near indecipherable. Its most notable user, according to folklore, was Bhaal. Upon his death, it's said Viekang, one of the last Bhaalspawn, sought out and found it, using it in his conflict with Abdel Adrian, and has since been lost in the carnage afterwards, though these legends are unreliable. Despite its creation being lost to time, it maintains its notoriety in demon culture, any demon using it seen as overcoming all others who have striven for it. When dormant, this appears to be a staff with a spiral pattern along the handle, and a loop at the bottom.

Summoning. As a bonus action, you can pull the Twisted Bident to your location in a straight line from up to 150 feet away. If a wall, or other immovable object, is between you and the Twisted Bident, the flight is interrupted upon contact and falls to the floor. If a creature is between you and the Twisted Bident when it is summoned, it deals 2d6 + 4 bludgeoning damage upon contact. If it hits a Huge or larger creature, the path is interrupted.

Dormant Staff. As a bonus action, if the Twisted Bident is within 75 feet, you can change the form of Twisted Bident into the Dormant Staff. The Dormant Staff can be used as an arcane focus and a melee weapon. This staff has range and versatile.

• Two handed, 3d6 + 8 magical bludgeoning

Hell Fork. As an action, if the Twisted Bident is within 150 feet, you can change the form of the Twisted Bident into the Hell Fork. The top unwinds into two straight prongs. The Hell Fork is a weapon, and not an arcane focus. It has range, thrown, and versatile.

• Single handed 3d8 + 8 magical piercing
• Two handed 4d8 + 10 magical piercing.

This can be thrown up to 60 feet, through all creatures large or smaller, dealing 2d8 + 5 ranged magical piercing. Upon being summoned, the prongs face you until it reaches your hand, dealing 2d8 + 5 to the first creature it intersects with, interrupting the flight path, and the creature must make a dexterity saving throw. Upon succeeding, bring the creature 5 feet closer to you. Upon failing, bring the creature 10 feet closer to you, they are knocked prone. The flight path is interrupted regardless, sticking into the creature. You must grab it yourself, succeed on a grapple check to get it back.

Devilry Scepter. As an action, if you are holding the Twisted Bident, you can change the form of the Twisted Bident into the Devilry Scepter. The top unwinds into a large cylindrical shape. The Devilry Scepter is an arcane focus, not a melee weapon. It can be thrown up to 30 feet. Any spells cast while holding the Devilry Scepter may be given advantage or give disadvantage for one roll of your choice, and damaging spells are given +5 damage.

Independent Casting. So long as the Twisted Bident is within 150 feet, you may choose for the point of origin for a spell to be the bident (Ex. The staff is 50 feet from you, and you cast a spell with a radius around the user, that spell may be in a radius around the staff, 50 feet away from you)

Bloodthirsty Spells. The Twisted Bident has 5 charges, 1 recovered upon a creature with a maximum health of 20 or more killed while using the Dormant Staff or Hell Fork, and the final blow not being done with Bloodthirsty Spells. You may expend these charges to cast spells from the list below with no material or verbal components.

• Expend no charges, cast up to three instances of Control Flames.
• Expend 1 charge, cast Wall of Fire at 7th level. You may cast Wall of Stone at the same time without expending a charge or breaking concentration of either Wall of Fire or Wall of stone. If you use Wall of Stone, it must be the target of Wall of Fire. Dispelling Wall of Fire removes the Wall of Stone.
• Expend 1 charge, cast up to three instances of Immolation. You may choose multiple targets.

Worshipped Weapon. The legend of this bident has spread into demon culture, as folk tales or chants. Any demon with a wisdom above 9 will know its stories if told what it is by name, and will react upon knowing you have it. Any demon with a wisdom above 15 will know it on sight, and any infernal being with a wisdom higher than 22 knows its true origin. The stories of the bident are known to cause issues with demons with any sort of greed vying for it, and will do whatever they can to obtain this legendary item. All demons knowledgeable of its significance gain +4 to disarming rolls.
