Sickly Staff of Life (5e Equipment)

This staff is crudely constructed of a chunk of decaying wood. The end of the staff is tipped with a sickly three-fingered green hand, which has been strapped to the staff with linen. It is clear that the hand is the only magical part of the staff, and the staff itself is simply a way to utilise the effects without touching it. Despite the fact that it is essentially a stick, it is quite sturdy and can handle a good amount of wear and tear.

Monkey's Paw. As an action, you can touch a Medium or smaller nonmagical object with the staff. Roll a d4 to determine the effect.

• On a 1, the material reverts to a state of life. If it was originally plant material, it grows roots, leaves, and branches, planting itself on the ground below it. If it was stone, beetles, ants, and worms chew their way out of it, consuming it until there is nothing but a pile of burrowing insects. If it was some kind of animal product, it will shift until it has become a creature similar to the one it was in life, a tiger fur becoming a striped housecat, or a rat's corpse becoming several gerbils covered in rat fur. Materials not composed of organic material, such as metal or crystal, simply do not respond to the effect.
• On a 2, the materials become enveloped in splotches of mold, regardless of whether they are organic or not. These splotches of mold slowly spread across the object over the course of 1d4 hours, completely decomposing at the end. All that is left after this process is a foul pile of mold roughly the size of the object.
• On a 3, the object becomes sentient, hovering 5 feet above the ground. The object has the same stats as a flying sword. If it is a weapon, it has that weapon's attacks as its own, if it is not a weapon it instead deals 1d4 bludgeoning damage, plus 3 bludgeoning damage for every additional 10 pounds it weighs, to a maximum of 20 additional bludgeoning damage. The object will follow any orders you give it. The object loses this property after 1d4 days.
• On a 4, the object becomes alive. The object has the same stats as a mimic, except it can only shapechange into that object's form. The mimic has an Intelligence of 15 and speaks Common. This effect lasts until the mimic is killed, at which time the object will revert to its inorganic form. Any damage the mimic sustained carries over to the object.

Every time the staff is used, one of the fingers curls as if counting downward. Once all three fingers are curled, the staff becomes nonmagical.
