Shadowkin (5e Race)

This page is incomplete and/or lacking flavor. Reason: Could use some more fluff to flesh out. If these guys are super rare, it might be difficult to incorporate them into a game. Also missing a RHW table.

Shadowkin

Shadowkin (also known as Shades, Shadows, Inklings, Shadow People, and Umbrids) are a fragmented and far-flung race of otherworldly shadows and beings of sentient, amorphous darkness.

Physical Description

Shadowkin's appearance varies widely, except in one regard; they are pitch-black in colour, except for white pupils set in the similarly black sclera of their eyes. Other than this one exception, their bodies are made of a pitch-black shadow-like surface which is surprisingly sold and cool to the touch. They do not appear to have blood, and they evaporate into a cloud of shade when they die. In terms of physicality, Shadowkin adopt one form upon their creation, often superficially mimicking a mortal race. Their shadowy forms adopt the requisite bodily feature (horns, pointed ears, hair, etc.). Generally, they maintain this form until they pass.

History

For as long as there has been darkness, there have been Shadowkin. Myth states that the first Shadowkin was created when the first light of creation struck the first shadow through that primordial darkness. Other than this myth, little is known about how they reproduce, if they even can, even to the Shadowkin themselves.

Society

The extreme rarity and apparent lack of procreation generally precludes the existence of a large society of Shadowkin. However, when one Shadowkin encounters another, they will often form a close bond, treasuring the companionship of one who can understand them fully.

Personality and Attitudes

Shadowkin are often very personable, many adopting played-up personas or body languages to account for their lack of any facial features. In additions, they often cling to styles or motifs in their clothing, many choosing to wear bright or garish clothing, in spite of their unnaturally dark complexions.

Shadowkin Names

Shadowkin often choose to adopt (or get assigned) names based on the race whose form they mimic, although they often receive nicknames based on their nature as creatures of pure, unadulterated darkness.
