Powered (5e Variant Rule)
Powered
Weapons and items with the powered property require a source of electricity or other energy to function. This source usually comes in the form of batteries or a power cell, which must be inserted into the item to grant the item charges and power it. Once all charges provided by a power source are expended, it must be removed and replaced as an action.
This rule is primarily intended to be a more straightforward and less confusing replacement for using the ammunition or reload property for modern and futuristic weapons that require energy sources.
Often, powered weapons possess a power feature that requires charges to be expended from the power source to be used.
