Giant pillbugs are commonly used as mounts by races that weren't able to domesticate horses, such as kobolds and goblins. Many other people use giant pillbugs as mounts too, simply because of their ease of taming and toughness. Give one of these things some decaying plant matter or a fruit and it will love you.
