Essence Theft
1st-level Necromancy
Casting time: 1 Reaction
Range: 120ft
Components: V,S
Duration: Instantaneous

As a reaction whenever a creature's HP is reduced to 0, you may absorb a piece of their essence healing you for 2d4 + Your Spellcasting modifier. You may alternatively choose to grant this healing to an ally within 30ft of you instead. This spell does not affect Constructs.

Additionally, if this spell is used on a creature using Player Equivalent CR (5e Variant Rule), a creature with levels in a class, a boss monster or a creature with a CR at least 3 higher than your character level, you add an additional 2d4 to the amount healed.

At Higher Levels. When you cast this spell using a spell slot of 2nd level or higher, increase the healing of this spell by 2d4 for every tier above 1st.
