Especially stealthy assassins (or especially foolhardy rogues looking to gain the sympathy of more lighthearted compatriots) tend to favor weaponry that is easily concealable on one's person, and the classic trick of stuffing a miniature thing entirely up one's sleeve is one of the most popular options around. However, this style of weaponry has historically failed to include notable ranged options, leading to the long and troubled development that finally resulted in an adorable mini-crossbow compact enough to satisfy its target demographics.
