Combat Staff (5e Equipment)

Martial Melee Weapons

Commonly wielded by war mages who expect to have to defend themselves from melee attackers in the thick of battle, combat staffs are just like quarterstaffs but smithed out of weapon-grade steel instead of carved from wood. The additional weight makes it harder to control without training (which is why it's no longer a simple weapon), but it's fireproof, it hurts more when you whack someone with it, and it can block a swing from a sword without breaking.

Focus. A weapon with the focus property can be used as a spellcasting focus of the listed type.
