Unwilling Roboticisation/Playing With
Basic Trope: A character becomes a robot without their consent.
- Straight: Bob is turned into a robot against his will.
- Exaggerated: Bob is the leader of an anti-robotics organization, and has a catchphrase where he states it's better to be dead than a robot. A mad scientist turns him into a robot anyway.
- Downplayed: Bob is knocked out in an accident, and is given multiple robotic prosthesis and organs by medical personnel to save his life. Bob is disgusted by them, and states he would have rather lived without the robotic replacements.
- Justified: Becoming a robot is required due to living in a People's Republic of Tyranny run by the Big Bad Robot Master.
- Inverted: A robot unwillingly is turned into a 100% organic person.
- Subverted: Bob only says he didn't want to become a robot, he actually thinks its cool.
- Double Subverted: ...Bob eventually realizes there are downsides to being a robot.
- Parodied: The Robot Master builds an Obviously Evil hospital in the famously anti robot city of Naturesville. A line of patients enter while wearing anti-robot shirts, then a line of roboticised patients wearing the same shirts leave.
- Zig Zagged: Bob is an amnesiac after becoming a robot, and keeps stumbling across contradictory evidence on if he became a robot voluntarily.
- Averted: Bob is ambivalent about becoming a robot.
- Enforced: A new toy line features all the characters as robots, but Bob the protagonist has fought evil robots the entire show. The writers make Bob become one unwillingly so he doesn't seem hypocritical.
- Done as An Aesop on medical ethics, and why patient consent is needed.
- Lampshaded: A clueless mook asks the Robot Master where the informed consent documentation is for all the screaming patients entering the roboticisation chamber.
- Invoked: Nobody will agree to become a robot, so the Robot Master simply starts converting them by force.
- Exploited: The Big Bad Robot Master taunts Bob about losing his humanity, several years after he involuntarily turned Bob into a robot.
- Defied: A heroic Robot Master always gets informed consent before turning someone into a robot.
- Discussed: Bob the robot explains that he never wanted to be a robot, and the circumstances that turned him into one against his will.
- Conversed: While watching a Show Within a Show, Bob asks Alice why the hero is so upset about becoming a robot, when his work would benefit greatly from his new powers.
- Played For Drama: Bob is deeply religious, and believes that as a robot he will never ascend to the afterlife.
