The Sims/Trivia
The Series
- Lying Creator: Several times, creators have stated that new installments would include specific features. When the games were actually released, these features were nowhere to be found. For example, that Sims in The Sims 2 would be able to recognize which bed was theirs.
The Sims
- Fake Mixed Race: For the Pleasant family, Jeff is white while Diane is Ambiguously Brown; instead of being somewhere in-between, Daniel has his father's skin tone, while Jennifer has her mother's. Justified in that there is no tan skin tone in TS1.
- It's later Averted in the sequel, where Jennifer's daughter has a white father and so has the tan skin tone mid-way between her parents'.
- Technology Marches On: Going back to the first game nowadays, the frequent use of the Comic Sans font will probably annoy you a lot more than it did back in the day.
The Sims 2
- Fake Mixed Race/Gender Equals Breed: For the Smith family, Jill has no alien features whatsoever, even though green skin and black eyes are dominant in the game.
- Averted in the PSP version; she's got eyes in the back of her head!
- Hey, It's That Voice!:
- While working as DJs, (some, there are two voice actors) adult male Sims' voices will sound like a certain rabbit detective...
- Children of both genders are Morgan LeFlay.
- Urban Legend of Zelda: Several alleged methods of getting twins, including the nonexistent "twinzR2cute" cheat. A "forcetwins" cheat was added to throw the fans a bone, but not until Open For Business.
- Not to mention the abundant rumors that female Sims could WooHoo (and be impregnated) by the Grim Reaper.
The Sims 4
- Same Content, Different Rating: The game received an 18+ rating in Russia due to it allowing for same-sex relationships (a mechanic which has always been present in the series but was not made more prominent until late in the third game's life cycle) in compliance with the so-called "gay propaganda" law (For the Purpose of Protecting Children from Information Advocating a Denial of Traditional Family Values) which restricts the portrayals of "non-traditional" relationships in mass media. Vladimir Putin later signed an amendment restricting any and all LGBTQ+ portrayals regardless of age group, effectively banning The Sims 4 from sale in the country (though given how most foreign media companies have already pulled out of Russia due to the country's invasion of Ukraine, this became moot point).
