The New York Times is a long running American newspaper based in New York City. It is among the most recognizable newspapers in The United States, if not the world, though it is not the most circulated either.
It's seen as a very reliable source (assuming one sees the media as reliable at all). Outside of the USA, it's often considered to be that country's newspaper of record, since there is no official newspaper in America... although the paper itself has distanced itself from that claim since 2004.
Aside from being a news outlet, the New York Times and the company that runs it has a presence in the broader media industry. This is most recognizable in the New York Times Bestseller list, which is widely used as a list of bestselling books. The New York Times is also involved in the gaming industry: Their crossword section has many fans, and they also own some computer games such as Wordle. They also publish a few Podcasts.
