  • What Could Have Been: Interestingly enough, the original draft called for Link to assume the role of the protagonist as he always did, still using the Echo mechanic. The developers realized, however, that if Link still had his sword, there'd be little incentive to use the Echoes, so rather try to think up a reason Link suddenly decided to go Squishy Wizard, they made Zelda the star.
