Super Leap Day is a simple platforming video game. A player character runs back and forth automatically, with the player being able to control when they jump. By doing so, the player is able to guide their character through a level, collecting fruit and defeating enemies along the way. Every real world calendar day that has passed represents a level, which can be selected by the player.
It was developed by Nitrome as a sequel to the earlier game Leap Day for Mac OS, iOS, iPad OS, TvOS, and visionOS. It released in 2021.
It has a website here. It can be found on the Apple App Store here as part of Apple Arcade.
Tropes used in Super Leap Day include:
- Amazing Technicolor Population: The default character is a stout yellow humanoid named Yolk. Many of the other characters use fantastic colors.
- Bubbly Clouds: In the level "Windy Skies", cloudy platforms form areas above the stage. These clouds can be jumped on and walked on with some sinking effects by the player character.
- Check Point: These can be activated by the player character as a place to return to on defeat.
- Collision Damage: Simply running into an enemy is enough to defeat the player character.
- Double Jump: The player character is able to jump while they are still within their first jump.
- Goomba Stomp: Enemies can be jumped on to defeat them.
- One-Hit-Point Wonder: An enemy attack landing or collision with an enemy that isn’t a Goomba Stomp will send the player character back to a checkpoint.
- Spikes of Doom: Touching spikes instantly causes the player character to be sent back to a Check Point.
- Spring Jump: The player character can be propelled a great distance by springs in the level.
- Springs, Springs, Everywhere: Springs are common occurrences in the levels.
- Stealth-Based Mission: Conflict Canyon features cameras that will make homing bullets fire on the player character. Hiding in various features is enough to escape their gaze and fire.
- Wall Jump: The player character can leap off of wall, propelling themselves upward and away from the wall. This can be used in rapid succession in vertical shafts to quickly scale them.
