    Shinichi Watanabe

    In proper Japanese name order, Watanabe Shinichi. The director responsible for such Anime as Excel Saga, Puni Puni Poemi, Nerima Daikon Brothers and The Wallflower. He likes to implant himself into the series he directs as his alter ego "Nabeshin," a Japanese Shaft who is more powerful and skilled than anyone else in the cast. Famed for his magnificent afro. Likes Texas (it's the steak).

    Nabeshin

    Patron saint of the Gag Series. Nabeshin is known for episodic stories and broad comedy... even when the story he's directing was originally driven by plot arcs and was very serious. (For example, Nabeshin was chosen to direct the Tenchi Muyo! GXP anime. Masaki Kajishima, who created the Tenchi Muyo! franchise including the original story for GXP, directed episode 17 of GXP (the episode with the original characters) personally... and it shows. Kajishima also wrote a GXP light novel series that did not include Nabeshin's additions to the story, and has never worked with Nabeshin again.)

    Not to be confused with Shinichiro Watanabe, the creator of Cowboy Bebop and Samurai Champloo.
