Saturday Morning Watchmen
Strong together, united forever, they’re the best of friends! —Theme song intro
|
Saturday Morning Watchmen is an animated web short video and fan work depicting the cast of Watchmen in a Theme Tune Roll Call done in the fashion of a 1980s Saturday Morning Cartoon. It is considerably Lighter and Softer compared to the original comic book. It was released by Harry Partridge in 2009. It can be viewed on YouTube here.
Tropes used in Saturday Morning Watchmen include:
- Adaptation Decay: Deliberately invoked to reflect how a 1980s cartoon adaptation of Watchmen would inevitably have been mangled.
- Animated Adaptation: Of the Watchmen into a 1980s Saturday morning cartoon -- with all the glorious Adaptation Decay that implies.
- Drugs Are Bad: The theme song encourages the viewer to say no to drugs, with Rorschach refusing a dealer.
- Expository Theme Tune: As an added bonus, every character's description either takes a Lighter and Softer approach to their personality and/or actions in the comic, or completely turns it on its head.
- Expressive Mask: One is worn by Rorschach.
- Fan Boy: The comedian is stated to be the biggest fan of Silk Spectre.
- Friend to All Living Things: Rorschach is said to be a friend to animals.
- Lighter and Softer: Compared to the original comics mature and serious themes are only ever hinted at, rather than being critical to the plot.
- Misaimed Marketing: Parodies the phenomenon of trying to adapt a mature for work a young audience.
- Mummy: One scares off Ozymandias and Bubastis.
- Reflecting Laser: Laser shots from a normal looking pistol are reflected off a trash can lid wielded by Nite Owl II.
- Real Trailer, Fake Movie
- Right-Hand-Cat: Bubastis is to Ozymandias as Scooby is to Shaggy.
- Shield-Bash: Nite Owl II does this with a trash can lid after using it as a shield.
- Talking Animal: Bubastis the Lynx is able to talk to Adrian.
- Technicolor Toxin: The nuclear waste being dumped into the city lake is shown as a bright neon pink liquid.
- Theme Tune Roll Call: The video consists of one for the cast.
- Transformation Sequence: Dr. Manhattan has a very brief one where he turns into a car.
- Wheel-O-Feet: Briefly seen.
