No Longer Allowed in Another World (anime)

No Longer Allowed in Another World is an anime about a suicidal writer known as Sensei. When given a new lease on life in another world after an interrupted suicide attempt with a girl named Sacchan, he simply seeks to die yet again. Despite his attempts in the other world he ends up failing. Traveling with Annette, an Elf of the cloth who was there when he was summoned, and a catgirl that Sensei dubs Tama, he seeks to find and reunite with Sacchan in the other world.
It was published by Kadokawa and began airing in Summer 2024, and is based off of a Manga of the same name. It can be officially streamed on Crunchyroll here. The official Crunchyroll YouTube channel published the first episode of the English dub on YouTube here.
Tropes used in No Longer Allowed in Another World (anime) include:
- The Alcoholic: Wolff, a high ranking religious leader, frequently drinks alcohol.
- Alternate Realm Boon: Annette states that those from other worlds invariably receive these, and is shocked when Sensei received rock bottom stats.
- Announcer Chatter: Sensei experiences this in universe, much to his displeasure.
- Black Comedy: Attempts to do this by Sensei's obsession with death and dying. Whether it succeeds is another matter.
- Brainwashed and Crazy: Happens to Annette and Tama following their confrontation with Suzuki.
- Catgirl: Tama is one.
- The Casino: One is established near the World Tree.
- Comically Missing the Point: When Tama is bound by a Death Tree and just met Sensei, he asks if he could write a novel about her rather than jump to her calls for help.
- Crystal Dragon Jesus: The religious facilities of the other world are obviously church inspired, with Sensei commenting on their western aesthetic.
- Curtains Match the Window: Princess Charlotte has pink eyes and pink hair.
- Driven to Suicide: Sensei and Sacchan at the start of the anime.
- The Eeyore: Sensei is generally a downer.
- Elves Versus Dwarves: Downplayed, the elves and dwarves fight together, but it’s strained teamwork. The Dwarven King Doran makes a friendly jab at Wolff being a weakling elf while complimenting him.
- Establishing Hem Lift: Happens at the end of Episode 7, when Tama does this to her father to show him how ready she was to go adventuring again.
- Everything's Better with Princesses: A few examples.
- Princess Charlotte plays a major role in the second episode. By the end of episode 2, she's a Queen.
- Tama as Princess Matilda also fits this trope.
- Extreme Omnivore: An odd example in Sensei, who intentionally eats things that may do him harm, snacking on Calmotin pills like candy. When he runs out of pills in episode 8, he substitutes them with pebbles.
- Familiar: Melos is one to Annette.
- Fantastic Drug: The leaves of the world tree are smoked recreationally.
- Healing Hands: Annette is able to use healing magic.
- Infinite Supplies: Lampshaded, as Sensei's supply of Calmotin lasts until the start of episode 8, and by the end he obtained a bottle blessed to have an unending supply.
- Interrupted Suicide: Sensei is hit by Truck-kun, instead of completing his double suicide with Sacchan.
- Japanese Delinquents: Some become otherworlders that compose a gang featured in episode 9.
- Kid Sidekick: Nir serves as one to the party after he joins up.
- The Mole: Gomez takes on the disguise of a knight to acquire the throne.
- Nice Job Breaking It, Hero: The other worlders in general are supposed to be heroic figures, but mostly are shown abusing their power and making where they live worse. Among them, Yamada genuinely tries to actually do good, yet his heavy handed ousting of the casino without further investigation led the town to simply carry on their operations and take the profit for themselves, exiling the one who actually protected the town in the process. He breaks down over what he did after being offered a 10% cut.
- No Celebrities Were Harmed: According to an Anime News Network article Sensei is meant to represent the real life author Osamu Dazai.
- One-Hit-Point Wonder: Sensei has only a single hit-point at the start of his time in the other world.
- Opium Den: One features in episode 8, where a number of people smoke the leaves of the world tree as a Fantastic Drug.
- Orphanage of Love: Woste Orphanage is one located in the desert. Nir originally came from there.
- Our Werewolves Are Different: Saitou is able to transform into a werewolf form as a result of the power granted to him as an otherworlder.
- Princesses Prefer Pink: Princess Charlotte wears a pink dress.
- Red String of Fate: Sensei and Sacchan have red string tying their hands together in the intro.
- Royals Who Actually Do Something: King Doran leads his people from the front lines.
- RPG Mechanics Verse: Characters have stats and skills viewable by those in the other world.
- Running Gag: Sensei calling the Catgirl Tama instead of her real name Matilda.
- Sour Supporter: Sensei generally does support his companions when they need it, though his help is often minimal or accidental.
- Suicide as Comedy: Tries to play this straight when Sensei attempts suicide after the intro. Whether it succeeds is a different matter.
- Suicide Pact: Sensei and Sacchan at the start of the show.
- Talking Down the Suicidal: Annette attempts this to Sensei.
- Thirsty Desert: Episode 9 starts with the cast taking a trek through the deserts of the Samstag Region.[1]
- Title Drop: Happens when Sensei retitles his novel on Suzuki from No Longer a Hero to No Longer Allowed in Another World.
- Together in Death: Sensei attempts this with Sacchan.
- Trapped in Another World: Sensei is hit by a truck before ending up in another world named Zauberberg. Annette explains this is called "The Other World Selection Truck", and only hits the profoundly unhappy.
- Truck-kun: A mechanical part of the world, used to transport adventurers to the new world.
- Wave Motion Gun: The dark dragon Jade unleashes a long continuous beam from its maw against the dwarven troops in episode 10.
- White Magician Girl: Annette is a caring woman who can heal others.
- World Tree: The world tree of Grun features at the start of episode 8.
