Mario Kart: Double Dash!! is a kart racing game in the Mario Kart series.

What’s cool about Double Dash!! is that two characters share a kart unlike other games in the series where characters each get their own kart, two characters ride in a single kart. This opens a lot of strategic possibilities over previous entries, as each character has attributes that are different from the rest of the cast, aside from their corresponding partner.

Mario Kart: Double Dash!! was released by Nintendo for the GameCube in 2003. Where Mario Kart 64 brought the series to 3D, Double Dash!! refined it with new gameplay elements and graphics that were great for its time.

Tropes used in Mario Kart: Double Dash!! include:
  • Amazing Technicolor Battlefield: Rainbow Road features quite vivid colors.
  • Banana Peel: This can be used offensively against other drivers.
  • Bottomless Pits: Should the player’s kart fall in one, it will be rescued and returned to the race.
  • Console Cameo: One of the battle stages is a GameCube.
  • Co-Op Multiplayer: One of the features of the enabled by the two characters in a kart system.
  • Excited Show Title!: The title has twin explanation points!!
  • Go-Karting with Bowser: The likes of Mario, Luigi, Peach, etc can go Go-Karting with Bowser.
  • Haunted House: The Luigi's Mansion battle stage is themed like this.
  • Scenery Porn: The game features a number of well designed environments, graphically impressive for their time and often with a bit of dynamism that sells the scene, such as tables rocking back and forth in a cruise ship, or a set piece cannon shot through the jungle skies.
  • Shifting Sand Land: The Dry Dry Desert course features sandy vistas and desert theming.
  • Shout Out: Luigi's Mansion is adapted as a battle stage.
  • Slippy-Slidey Ice World: The Sherbet Land course features a wintry landscape.
  • Wacky Racing: A bit more then earlier entries, since two characters dynamically jostle over a single cart.
