Luce (mascot)

Luce (from the Italian word for "light") is the 2025 Jubilee mascot of the Catholic Church. Designed by Simone Legno, she represents a Catholic pilgrim. Luce has a pet dog named Santino and friends named Fe, Xin, and Sky.
She was created by Legno to, quote "Luce can represent the sentiments that resonate in the hearts of the younger generations". According to Archbishop Rino Fisichella who unveiled her, she was inspired "to live even within the pop culture so beloved by our youth".
Needless to say, Luce has caused quite a stir in various circles. Some Catholics love her, some think she's too irreverent to represent the Catholic faith properly. She's already been been made into all sorts of internet meme images.
Tropes used in Luce (mascot) include:
- Curtains Match the Window: Her hair and eyes have the same basic color, though the eyes have a seashell pattern for the theming mentioned in the Wingding Eyes section.
- Footprints of Muck: Rare non-creepy use. Her boots are covered in mud to show she's been on a long pilgrimage, to fit her Catholic pilgrim theming.
- In the Hood: Due to wearing a raincoat.
- Memetic Mutation: The internet noticed her and this was the immediate result.
- The Moral Substitute: Catholic anime mascot, basically Catholicism in an anime format, with the intent to reach out to that community.
- Simple Staff: Has a pilgrim staff in emulation of traditional walking staves used on Christian pilgrimages.
- Wingding Eyes: Her eyes have the shape of a scallop shell, used before the chalice was a commonplace religious artifact.
- You Gotta Have Blue Hair: Obviously, as if her anime design was not enough of a hint to her design philosophy.
