  • Executive Meddling: The original script was intended to be about how legends and fairy tales are actually about much deeper and darker elements of human nature than they may initially appear on the surface. Among other elements, as part of her wedding to Darkness Lili was intended to transform into a monster and have sex with him, in a more-than-symbolic exploration of the theme of corruption of innocence. The script, though, was gutted by studio executives, who left in a lot of the action but bowdlerized anything that was too intense or dark, resulting in a film full of superficial action but lacking almost all character depth and motivation, and turning Lili in particular into a mannequin embodying just about every negative trope about female weakness and evil.
