Tropes used in Interviews with Monster Girls (anime) include:
- The Alcoholic: Saki Sato drinks as part of her routine when she gets home.
- Bad Liar: Kurtz is a compulsive bad liar.
- Bland-Name Product: The show features a few:
- Cold Flames: The teal column of flame that shoots out of a Dulahan neck is not dangerous.
- Cool Teacher: Takahashi is extremely casual for a teacher, and somewhat begrudgingly accepts students just calling him Teach instead of addressing him respectfully.
- Fantastic Racism: Part of the backstory, with discrimination against demihumans falling before the events of the plot. Because of this Demihumans remain poorly understood.
- Friendly Neighborhood Vampire: Hikari Takanashi is a vampire student. Despite wanting to drink blood directly from others, she restrains herself. Instead she limits herself to the blood ration offered by The Government and foods she likes. Some vampires are said to take this further, and abstain from blood all together.
- The Government: The vague actions of the government are mentioned on occasion, such as providing vampires a monthly blood ration.
- Government Agency of Fiction: The police operate a Demihuman Division.
- High School: The setting is a Japanese style high school.
- Horny Devils: The Math teacher Saki Sato is a succubus Sensei-chan. Succubi lack control of their powers, so they generally take steps to avoid accidentally triggering them.
- An Ice Person: Yuki is a Snow Woman Youkai who can chill nearby things.
- Japanese Delinquents: Takun and and his punk posse from the backstory of Saki Sato.
- Losing Your Head: Kyoko Machi is a Dullahan that doesn’t ride a horse. She typically carries her head around, but can be OK if it is separated for a long distance.
- Must Have Nicotine: Ugaki is a frequent smoker, and at one point Saki Sato has to remind him only smoke in the designated area of the school.
- Our Vampires Are Different: Hikari Takanashi is a vampire student with fangs and Yellow or sometimes Red Eyes. She likes garlic, but sunlight wears her down, and admits she would probably die if a stake was driven through her heart.
- Peek-a-Bangs: Kurtz wears his hair like this, covering his right eye.
- Power Incontinence: A succubus automatically triggers an aphrodisiac effect on physical contact with a non-homosexual male, and enters dreams of nearby men if they fall asleep. This troubles Saki Sato greatly, and she goes to lengths to manually ensure she doesn’t accidentally use her power.
- Red Eyes, Take Warning: Hikari's normally yellow eyes turn red in episode one as she envisions biting into Yuki in episode 1.
- Sensei-chan: Saki-Sato serves as one, being a youthful unmarried math teacher.
- Shout-Out: To Lassie in the dubbed version of episode 2, with Hikari asking the fumbling headless body of Machi if Timmy fell down a well.
- Sibling Yin-Yang: Hikari's sister Himari acts more responsibly than her, and isn’t a vampire like her.
- Technicolor Eyes: Some of the characters have this, such as purple or yellow eyes.
- Two-Teacher School: Downplayed. Other teachers and staff are briefly shown, but the only plot important teachers are Takahashi and Saki Sato.
- Weakened by the Light: Hikari is a vampire who is weakened by the sunlight.
- Won't Work On Me: Kurtz is trained to resist the effects of succubi.
