Impressionism

Impressionism is an art style focused on capturing things as they are. While impressionist techniques could be seen as sacrificing some accuracy and realism in technique compared to other movements like Neo Classicism, the method served to better overall capture realism in subject matter and the spontaneous scene as a whole.
When Impressionism was new in the 1800s it was a radical departure from the older methods employed by artists, and can be though of as an Ur Example for modern art.
Contrast with Pointillism.
Examples of Impressionism include:
- The works of Degas.
- The works of Monet.
- The works of Renoir.
- The music of Claude Debussy.
