Gushing over Magical Girls

Gushing over Magical Girls is a comedic Magical Girl manga series written and illustrated by Akihiro Ononaka, that began serialization in 2019.
The series follows the adventures of Utena, fan of her friendly neighborhood magical girls, Tres Magia, and whose dreams look set to come true when she is offered magical powers of her own. Unfortunately, those offering them are the bad guys, and she is recruited as a general in their evil army, and is expected to fight against her idols.
The series is know for being very fanservice-heavy, taking advantage of the protagonist's bondage-themed powers.
An animated adaptation began airing in spring 2024.
Tropes used in Gushing over Magical Girls include:
- Attention Whore: Kiwi's motivation for joining Enormeeta was being jealous of the attention they were getting on social media. She grows out of this fairly quickly though and becomes more interested in having Utena's attention than anyone else's.
- Double Standard Rape: Tres Magia treat Utena's antics as more of an annoyance than anything else and occasionally express that dealing with her is preferable to ordinary monster attacks.
- Even Evil Has Standards: Utena has no interest in actually defeating Tres Magia, she just wants to do lewd things to them to satisfy her kinks. When other villains show up who have no qualms about dragging civilians into the crossfire or killing defeated magical girls she gets uncharacteristically pissed off about it and starts taking things much more seriously.
- Evil Is Sexy: Utena's dominatrix-themed magical girl costume certainly plays into the idea.
- I Have You Now, My Pretty: Utena does this to anyone she captures.
- Safe, Sane, and Consensual: Zig-zagged. While Utena's antics are rarely consensual she does employ some amount of care, if inconsistently. When she subjects Sulfur to wax play she uses special candles with a lower melting point to avoid burning her, and in one chapter she and Leopard give Magenta aftercare after their latest bout.
- Submissive Badass: Quite literally in Azul's case. Though she has trouble dealing with her masochistic desires when she first discovers them, after unlocking her La Verita she starts channeling those feelings into powering up her magic and protecting her friends by taking hits and repaying the damage tenfold.
- Tentacle Rope: In their first encounter, Utena captures Tres Magia using monstrous plant vines.
- Villain Protagonist: While initially hesitant about it, Utena is ultimately working for the evil Enormeeta organization.
