Ergo Proxy/YMMV

  • Author Tract: In Jesuotaku's review of the show, she criticized it for being extremely heavy handed not just to the aesop it was trying to teach but for other aesops that had nothing to do with the show, even satirizing Disney of all places.
  • Awesome Art: With its masterfully done character designs, gritty-as-night art-style that captures' the series' post-apocalyptic setting exceptionally well, and absolutely breathtakingly beautiful animation that's full of incredibly realistic detail in each single one of its frames, this is easily one of the best-looking anime series ever made. It helps that this was made by some of the same staff behind Cowboy Bebop, Wolf's Rain and Samurai Champloo.
  • Awesome McCoolname: Vincent Law. "Vincent" is derived from the roman "vincere", to conquer. So, his name is basically "Conquer the law". Anyway, Vincent Law. C'mon, say it aloud. You know you want to.
  • Crowning Music of Awesome: The whole soundtrack, but particularly the opener, Monoral's "Kiri", "Centzontotochtin", "Shampoo Planet" and the closer, Radiohead's "Paranoid Android".
  • Hype Aversion: The American release didn't sell too well; might be because it was a Mind Screw-type series, but might also be because it was advertised inside of every single Geneon DVD case for about two years.
  • Magnificent Bastard: Proxy One.
  • Rescued from the Scrappy Heap: Regardless of what you thought of her character, Pino is thrown into (and rescued from) a literal scrap heap.
  • Tastes Like Diabetes: Pino, The Girl With A Smile. Her cuteness keeps the somber series from descending too deeply into Grimdark territory.
