Disgaea 6: Defiance of Destiny

Disgaea 6: Defiance of Destiny is a Turn-Based Strategy game about Zed, a zombie who grows stronger through the process of Super Reincarnation.

First released in 2021, Disgaea 6 has been released on Microsoft Windows, Nintendo Switch, PlayStation 4, and PlayStation 5. It was developed by Nippon Ichi as the first fully 3D entry in the Disgaea series.

• An Axe to Grind: Axes are used as a weapon type.
• The Bible: Specifically, the plot heavily cribs from the Book of Genesis for a key plot point, Zed is a zombie Majin, which is another name for the Nephilim mentioned in Genesis who were wiped out in the Great Flood. The true villain is trying to utilize Zed unwittingly to turn him into a superweapon to Rage Against the Heavens.
• Cute Monster Girl: Most of the female monster characters have cutesy designs.
• Cute Witch: The Witch character class features a design with a large ribbon, hair, and long frilly skirt.
• Demon Lords and Archdevils: Personified by Overlord Ivar.
• Don't Try This At Home: Played for Laughs in Bieko's character information, where it states:

WARNING: Preforming unlicensed brain transplants is prohibited by law.

• Gameplay Automation: A major addition to the series introduced in this game is the ability to automate battles.
• Horny Devils: The Succubus class is themed on this.
• Magical Girl: Happens to the user of the Legendary Witch's Magical Wand of Transformation.
• Manipulative Bastard: Cerberus aka Sage Misual, as he manipulates Zed for most of the plot so subtlety he doesn't even realize it. Zed manages to one up him, to Misual's shock, as Zed caught on eventually and played along after finding out the truth to get Misual to tip his hand.
• Ninja: Characters in the Ninja class are this.
• Our Dragons Are Different: The dragon class features bipedal western-style dragons.
• Our Gods Are Greater: The God of Destruction plays a huge role in the story.
• Our Zombies Are Different: Zed and his family are distinct from other zombies. The zombie character class is usable as in other Disgaea games.
  • There even turns out to be a very good reason both Zed and his sister Bieko being different from other zombies, both are zombie Majin, who are revealed to have had ancestors as a precursor race believed wiped out.
• Rage Against the Heavens: Sage Misual wants to do this full stop. Due to feeling God left him to suffer, unable to change fate to save the woman he loved.
• Rich Bitch: Melodia, so much. Her sister too for that matter. Both eventually mellow out.
• Robot Girl: Characters of the Mecha Girl class are robotic girls.
• Serial Escalation: The level scaling is MUCH higher than previous Disgaea titles, into the nigh trillions. This is given Gameplay and Story Integration given the main character Zed and his continual quest to get ever stronger.
• The Dog Was the Mastermind: Cerberus turns out to have been the main orchestrator of the plot. It's still played with because Cerberus is really Sage Misual, just with his brain in a dog body.
• Uncle Pennybags: Misedor, to his annoyance. Though he manages to not only come to terms with this, he even becomes more than that due to sheer will.
• Undignified Death: Zed has been a victim to MANY of these.
• Updated Rerelease: Disgaea 6 Complete includes the Downloadable Content for the original game.
• Unwitting Instigator of Doom: Overlord Ivar unknowingly sets a major portion of the plot in motion due to hiring Sage Misual to make God of Destruction for him to fight. He of course had no idea what exactly it entailed, specifically, that Misual would have sacrificed his own troops to make it, but is horrified when he finds out and even kills the instigator. Only Misual turned out to be Only Mostly Dead due to Bieko reviving him as Cerberus, where he continued his plans on a more discreet scale.
• Video Game 3D Leap: Unlike the previous games, this game introduced 3D models for characters.
• Wizarding School: The Magimage School of Magic.
