Civilization V
Civilization V is a 4X strategy game and a noted entry into the Civilization game series. Players take on the task of managing a civilization, helping it grow its holdings, explore the lands around it, and potentially fend off or attack other civilizations. Featuring a number of changes that streamlined gameplay compared to the prior Civilization IV. It also featured much improved graphics overall in the game world. Stylistically the game was less cartoony when depicting leaders.
It was developed by Firaxis Games and published in 2010 by 2K. You can get it for Microsoft Windows, Mac OS, and Linux on Steam here. Mac users can also elect to purchase it from the Mac App Store here. It was followed by Civilization VI.

- Ancient Greece: Greece is a playable civilization led by Alexander the Great.
- Ancient Rome: Rome is a playable civilization led by Augustus Caesar.
- Art Deco: Much of the interface styling is inspired by Art Deco.
- Eagle Land: America is a playable civilization led by George Washington.
- Easier Than Easy: The tooltip popup over the difficulty "Warlord" describes it as "Easy". There are two even easier options to pick from.
- Harder Than Hard: There are three difficulties harder than "King", which a tooltip describes as "Hard".
- Historical Domain Character: The characters that represent civilizations are based off of historical people.
- In Case You Forgot Who Wrote It: Sid Meier is once again prominently billed as a creator with the full official name of the game being Sid Meier's Civilization V.
- Lethal Joke Character: Venice is unable to produce settlers and is thus forced to play around a single city. Despite this it is a capable civilization to play as.
- Level Map Display: A world mini map is displayed in the bottom right corner of the screen.
- Literary Allusion Title: The expansion pack "Brave New World" is likely a reference to the novel of the same name, if not the quote from Shakespeare's The Tempest which inspired it.
- Multi-Platform: Was made available across Microsoft Windows, Mac OS, and Linux.
- Ruins for Ruins' Sake: Players can find "Ancient Ruins" that give advantages when explored.
- Tech Tree: The player has access to a technology tree screen, which shows the development of various potential technologies and how they enable the development of more advanced technology later on.
