Big Finish
A British company that produces audio dramas, mostly Sci Fi. Not to be confused with Grand Finale.
Their productions include audios for:
- Doctor Who. They use the original actors whenever possible, and guest voices including Anthony Head, Peter Jurasik, and David Tennant have turned up. A number of their writers were hired for the 2005 series recommission and (so far) three new series episodes have had more or less direct audio antecedents: Robert Shearman's episode "Dalek" was heavily adapted from his audio "Jubilee"; and "Rise of the Cybermen / The Age of Steel" draws one of its most powerful scenes (the Doctor speaks with a partially converted Cyberwoman who doesn't understand what has happened to her) from the audio "Spare Parts" (whose author, Marc Platt, got a story credit on the episodes). Originally Big Finish only had the license to the classic series, but starting in 2015 they got the license to use characters from the revival.
- The Tomorrow People.
- Sapphire and Steel
- Dark Shadows
- Judge Dredd and other 2000 AD strips
- The Stargate Verse.
- Sherlock Holmes
- Warhammer 40,000
- The Ciaphas Cain story "Dead in the Water"
Along with licensed audios, they have created several audio adaptations on novels such as Dracula, Frankenstein and The Phantom of the Opera. Finally they have also experimented with original content:
- ATA Girl, a WWII drama.
- Blind Terror: The Gods of Frost, a gothic horror.
- Cicero, a thriller about Marcus Tullius Cicero set in Ancient Rome.
- The Confessions of Dorian Gray, a gothic horror series based on The Picture of Dorian Gray.
- The Human Frontier, a science fiction serial.
- Jeremiah Bourne in Time, a time travel-adventure series which the creator eventually published as a book.
- Shilling & Sixpence Investigate, a murder mystery.
- Transference, a crime thriller starring Alex Kingston.
- Vam PD, a police procedural starring Juliet Landau as a vampire cop.
