A Close Shave is a 1995 clay-animated short film. Created by Nick Park and Aardman Animations, it is the third instalment in the Wallace and Gromit franchise.
Wallace and Grommit are working as window cleaners when they come into possession of a lost lamb. This discovery leads Grommit to a sheep-rustling operation, and he is framed to get him out of the way. One prison-break later, and the duo must work together to apprehend the real thief.
Tropes used in A Close Shave include:
- A.I. Is a Crapshoot: The antagonist of A Close Shave, Preston, was once a good robot dog that according to Wendolene suddenly became evil.
- Bittersweet Ending: A Close Shave, in which Wallace saves Wendolene, but true love is thwarted as he discovers she is allergic to cheese. Even Wensleydale.
- Conveyor Belt O' Doom: The climax.
- Cool Sidecar: Gromit's sidecar can double as an airplane. It also comes with a retractable rapid-fire cannon that the heroes usually use to shoot soapy water up onto windows they're cleaning from ground level, but during the climax Gromit loads it with porridge to fight Preston.
- Human Ladder: Well, sort of. It's a Sheep Ladder.
- Packed Hero: The villain intends to do this to the heroes, complete with Conveyor Belt O' Doom into a machine which produced canned dog food. In the end it is the villain who gets crushed up and delivered into the cans. Not as gruesome as it sounds, since the villain is really a robot.
